Founder & CEO
Emily Hall, Olive Grove’s Founder & CEO, has provided strategic consulting services to thousands of community leaders, social entrepreneurs, nonprofits, board members, corporations, governments and philanthropists over two decades. She has enhanced the impact of organizations of every size, sector, stage of development, and mission focus, and helped individuals focusing their giving for maximum impact.
“Imagine getting to spend your time with thousands of incredibly smart, witty, generous, creative, skilled, values-driven, curious, high-impact people who are all striving to reach their highest personal and collective potential so they can leave the world better than they found it – I’ve been living that dream for more than 20 years.”
While Olive Grove provides a full range of consulting services, Emily primarily works with CEOs and Boards during points of inflection, growth, opportunity, confusion or change, and frequently in highly complex and ambiguous environments. She supports clients in philanthropy, strategy, governance, succession and transitions, mergers, and other mission-critical topics.
Emily is known as a trusted and knowledgeable advisor who can quickly distill complex and ambiguous information and competing priorities into clear patterns and options, and who supports leaders to make the right choices, not necessarily the easy ones. Her counsel has been sought by many of the largest and most innovative foundations to support their own work as well as advance the capabilities of their grantees.
Clients include: Schwab Charitable Fund; Opportunity Fund; Surfrider Foundation; Tipping Point Community; Moishe House; Education Trust-West; The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation; Bay Area Open Space Council; and hundreds of others.
Before founding Olive Grove in 2002, Emily served as Executive Vice President and head of the West Coast Nonprofit Practice for DHR International, Director of the West Coast Nonprofit Practice for A.T. Kearney, and a Director at The Management Center. She also has extensive experience as a board member in both New York and California. As Founder and CEO of Olive Grove, she took her small, sole proprietor operation and cultivated it into a leading, full-service national firm based on a unique networked model that allows for completely customized approaches for clients and real-time leveraging of experts. The firm has grown over 1300% in the past four years.
Emily holds a B.A. from Northwestern University and studied abroad at the University of Sussex in England. She completed coursework for her Master’s in Human Resources and Organization Development at the University of San Francisco. Emily has written thought-papers and served as guest lecturer at numerous universities. She has designed and delivered curricula at leading universities and has spoken at conferences nationally. Her deepest passion is ensuring every child has access to the arts as part of a 21st Century education; she serves this passion through her client work, by serving as Chair Elect on the Board of the California Alliance for Arts Education, and through her volunteer role as coordinator for Art in Action at her children’s public school.
